Hello 👋
Two months in one letter: what the community read, wrote and built across June and July.
|
|
Two Story Challenges, Open Now
The brand campaigns that work best here do not interrupt the stories. They become them. Two are running at the moment,
both open to every storyteller on Muwado, and both run until 31 August.
 |
#IjuruStories
An open call to writers, audio storytellers, photographers and comic artists. Visit Ijuru Café, order what calls to you,
and tell the story of what happened, in your own voice and your own medium. Over UGX 300,000 worth of Ijuru rewards on the table.

 |
#Drinks24Moment
Order from Drinks24 (any hour, free delivery across Kampala, code MUWADO for 15% off your first order),
then tell the story of the moment. The emergency restock for a surprise visitor. The pre-game. The quiet solo treat after a long week.
Honest stories only, good delivery or bad. Best story each week takes a bottle of choice under UGX 100,000.

We want more of these. Every challenge gives our storytellers somewhere to practise, and gives a brand something no ad slot can buy:
real people writing about them, in their own words. If you are a company or brand that would like to work with the Muwado
storyteller community, reply to this email and we will take it from there.

Catch Us at the Festival
Muwado founder Roland Byagaba moderates an interactive dialogue on Monetizing Streaming Content
at the Kampala Writes LitFest: practical strategies for turning streaming content into sustainable revenue, and the business
questions many creators are still working out. He is joined by Faisal Pyepar (Airtel Uganda),
Patricia Kahill (Kahill Insights Group) and Fiona Kemigisha (Khama Digital).

| 📅 Saturday 29 August, 1:30–2:30pm |
| 📍 UNCC National Theatre, Green Room, Kampala |
| 🎟 Free entry |

We are always glad to talk about digital storytelling and what we have learned building a platform for story monetisation at scale.
If you are putting together a panel, festival or newsroom session, reply to this email and let us talk.

Out in the City: The Kampala Photo Walk
Not every story starts as writing. In June we took to the streets with UPPA, Unpublished,
FOTEA Foundation and Global Shapers Kampala, hosted by Badru Katumba and co-hosted by
Monica Ahairwebyona, to document the city as it actually works.

The brief was to look past the word “chaos” and photograph what is really there: street economies and self-built
infrastructure as calculated acts of survival and design. Photographers worked in three frames (the wide context, the human
connection, the telling detail) and the results were published here on Muwado.

Another walk is coming soon, so watch this space. And if your organisation runs something our storytellers should be part of,
reply and tell us about it.

Brands Already on Muwado
You already know how this works, even if you have never bought an ad. Someone tells a friend, the friend tells three more,
and that is how things actually move here. A Muwado ad sits inside that conversation, beside the story someone came to read,
on the page where their attention already is.
 |
| NovaSage Africa: in-story banner and sidebar on the same page. |
 |
| BadidiTech in-story, with Motherofherbs and CS Fitness alongside. |
 |
| Epa Othieno and Wagabites Restaurant on a storyteller profile. |

A Call for Members, Coming Soon
|
Within the next month we are hosting a live call to walk members through everything new on the platform, and for those who
want it, how the commission programme works: how to find ads, upload them, and earn from the stories you already publish.
Dates will be announced shortly. Reply to this email to register your interest and we will make sure you get the invite.
