Last weekend was quite an eventful weekend for Ugandans, so many plans to raid with so little time for optimum fun. Nevertheless, the highlight of the weekend was dancehall star SPICE’s concert that had over 30,000 revellers grooving to the dancehall beat. Not so many celebrities that visit Uganda actually take the time to tour and take in the beauty of Mother-nature of the PEARL OF AFRICA. SPICE was ecstatically added to the list (took a boda boda ride on the streets of Kampala and visited a few tourist sites), joining the likes of KANYE WEST who visited a national park in Western Uganda on his visit. But enough of that (on to the next one), this weekend is a special type of weekend, one of those weekends that indirectly carry a thematic scent. And for this weekend it’s…

Let me just show you what I’m mumbling about, let’s get into it;

Soul music is a popular music genre that had its genesis in African-American communities throughout the United States in the late 1950s and early 1960s. For black Americans, Soul music offered a cultural soundtrack to the civil rights movement and the majority awakening of black consciousness. From then on, it has been a global trend with hundreds of thousands of fans across every continent. With that being said, fans of SOUL MUSIC in Uganda SILO has a SOUL TRAIN at their train station on the 14th of May. Come let’s boogie. 😉

Talking about boogying, there’s a new trend of events that started popping up all over Kampala city and Jinja City-Tattoo Events. These events are like ordinary musical events, but here is the kicker; revellers actually get their preferred tattoos done at the event by any tattoo artist showcasing at the event. Just to be sure that we’re on the same page; a tattoo is regarded as a form of body modification done by inserting tattoo ink either indelible or temporary, into the dermis layer of the skin in-order to form a design or image. Body Art has been with us for generations, so if you would like to learn more, see how the process is done or even get that one tattoo you’ve always wanted, then head to the LINUS TATTOO PARTY at Lugogo Hockey grounds on 15th May. I hope my boss reads this and cashes out for the whole office ha-ha.

This weekend I have a mission, a soulful mission. BLACKROOTS ACADEMY OF SOUL is a Ugandan live music collective, founded by TShaka Mayanja a bassist and promoter. This music collective is devoted to performing classic soul, R&B, and jazz, with a mission to keep live music on the air waves all over East Africa. An evening with acoustic sounds traversing through the air, a glass of whiskey or wine surrounded by a mellow atmosphere. And that ladies and gentlemen is how I picture that day to go down, it’s the MELANIN SOUL-RnB train (Tuu-Tuu).

In summary, SOUL MUSIC didn’t get its name (SOUL) out of the blue, it’s a genre of music that speaks to you (touches your soul) and elevates your spirits. It is more of an uplifting air wave that synchronizes with any activity or even most, so to say; doing chores try soul music, working out try soul music, cooking try soul music, having a chill with a couple of friends try soul music you’ll never go wrong with SOUL MUSIC. It’s that mellow vibe you’ve been looking for. 😉
