Producers Guild of Uganda Holds First AGM

The Producers Guild of Uganda (PGU) has successfully held its First Annual General Meeting (AGM), marking a major milestone in the Guild’s journey toward building a stronger, more united and sustainable film industry in Uganda. The meeting brought together producers, development partners, government representatives and industry stakeholders to celebrate progress made while setting an ambitious course for the future.

One of the key highlights was the unveiling of the Guild’s 2026–2029 Strategic Plan, which prioritizes the development of a National Film Policy, the establishment of a Uganda Film Commission, expansion of capacity-building programmes, advocacy for a National Film Fund, and the growth of regional film infrastructure. These priorities reaffirm PGU’s commitment to creating an enabling environment where Ugandan filmmakers can thrive.

The AGM also celebrated the Guild’s growing national footprint through strong collaboration with regional producers’ associations across Western, Northern, Eastern and West Nile Uganda, ensuring that producers from every corner of the country have a voice in shaping the industry’s future. Members were encouraged to contribute to a national industry database that will strengthen advocacy and attract greater investment into Uganda’s creative economy.

Discussions focused on strengthening professionalism through improved contracts, intellectual property protection, funding opportunities, marketing, distribution, youth development and institutional growth. Members also received valuable insights from industry partners, including sessions on production insurance and copyright protection, equipping producers with practical knowledge to safeguard their work and businesses.

As PGU looks ahead, the Guild reaffirmed its commitment to championing policies, partnerships and investments that position Uganda as a leading film production destination in Africa. The success of this inaugural AGM is a testament to the collective determination of Uganda’s producers to build a professional, competitive and globally recognised film industry that contributes meaningfully to the country’s cultural and economic development.
