It takes experience to understand more about mental Health

I am Hilda. I have lived through Major Depressive Disorder, Generalised Anxiety Disorder, and Fibromyalgia and one of the biggest mental crashes of my life (I hope it was the biggest because 😪 .

Try explaining to someone why you cannot get out of bed when nothing is visibly wrong.
Most people cannot understand it. Because they have never lived it, and it is very difficult to understand unless you have lived through it ( I sometimes think even the professionals in this field don’t understand it as deeply as someone who has experienced it)

People hear words like:
Bipolar Disorder. Major Depressive Disorder. ADHD. Generalized Anxiety Disorder. PTSD. OCD. Borderline Personality Disorder. Panic Disorder. Fibromyalgia. Postpartum Depression. Burnout.

However, hearing a word is not the same as understanding a life.

How do you explain:

>> waking up exhausted after a full night of sleep?
>> feeling anxious about things everyone else calls “normal”?
>> losing all interest in life while looking completely fine on the outside?
>> sitting down to focus, but feeling like your brain is fighting itself?
>> reliving something traumatic on a random Tuesday for no clear reason?
>> Breaking down in the middle of the day while at your Work desk for no apparent reason
>> carrying physical pain every day because your nervous system will not settle?
>> feeling everything too deeply, or sometimes nothing at all?

Most of these struggles are invisible.

Which is exactly why those of us who have lived through them cannot afford to stay silent and why we should never stop talking about mental health

Not because we want sympathy.
Because conversations create awareness. And awareness is what helps someone finally realise:

“I am not crazy.”
“I am not alone.”
“What I am experiencing has a name.”
“There is support available.”

Right now, someone is suffering in silence with no language for what they are feeling, no support system, no resources. Just pain. And the belief that this is simply normal life. ( I used to wonder so deeply how I was going to live the rest of my life in pain and I didn’t want to honestly 😪
Understanding what you are carrying is often the first step toward healing.

Healing changes you.
But silence can destroy you.

If any of this reflects your experience, even a small part of it, you are not imagining it. What you are feeling is real. Drop a 🤍 in the comments if you or someone you know has been touched by any of these conditions.
You do not have to share your story. Just let someone know they are not alone.

And if you are ready to talk, I am here, and my DMs are Open. #mentalhealth #awareness #MayMentalHealthMonth

Ps. I took this picture exactly 10 days before I was ordered off work. By this time, I was already DYING inside, but I showed up every day and smiled 😊
