To The Self I Left Behind
My dear,
I never sent this letter. Perhaps I never meant to, yet it lingers here, folded delicately between the quiet corners of my mind, waiting for a voice that will never hear it.
I want you to know that I remember the mornings differently — the sunlight spilling gently through half-open windows, the way laughter felt lighter than air, and how the world seemed both immense and intimate all at once. I want you to understand that absence has taught me more than presence ever could: the patience to watch, the courage to feel, and the resilience to rise when everything I held dear had fallen away.
I carry fragments of you still, tucked into the unseen folds of my days. Sometimes, I speak to the air, hoping it will carry my words where they need to go. I have learned that longing is neither weakness nor a burden, but a teacher — guiding me to navigate the delicate space between who I was and who I am becoming.
I write to remind myself that life is not measured only in triumphs or the moments we celebrate, but in the letters we never send, the words we hold close, and the quiet love we nurture faithfully in the heart. Each unspoken sentence, each withheld thought, forms the invisible threads that connect our past selves to the ones we are now, shaping the way we move, think, and feel.
Forgive me for not reaching out. Yet in this silence, in these words that will never meet your eyes, there is a kind of reverence — a space where memory and imagination dwell together. Thank you, for though I never wrote you before, you have never truly been gone. You live here, in these lines, in the spaces between breaths, in the soft echo of remembrance, and through you, I find my way forward.
Always,
— A voice you once knew
