He became a burden. Living with HIV, always sickly and almost dying all the time . The stigma from the society, the neighbors and the gossip topic of the village.
SAVING HIM***
50 years ago, two brothers along with their wives and children acquired land next to each other. Years later, The elder brother John passed on, leaving his wife selina and 5 chicken. 3 years later, the younger brother follows and his wife also died, leaving their two son and rentals. Vincent and James. Vincent the older brother was the heir. For some reasons Vincent was not a shrewd landlord, he does not insist on the tenants to pay their rent. Therefore, he was always short of money. For that reason he can not manage to renovate the rentals leaving the compound looking shabby.
Selina, wife of the deceased Uncle was always eyeing Vincent’s property, looking for reasons to own it on top of what she already owned through the inheritance after the passing of her Husband John. But the more the merrier. She always found weakness in the way Vincent was mismanaging his property, added onto that, his illness was terminal, he is not married, they are stigmatized because of him, making him even more of a burden. ‘if only he could die sooner’, Selina wishes in her heart.
The sickness was worsening, the property falling apart. There was no one to take care of him, So they decided to find him a wife to take care of him as they await his death.
Susana and Vincent met several times in a neighborhood bar. They started a relationship, with Vincent keeping in mind how the family were pushing him to get a woman home to take care of him. He convinced her to moved in together. Susana was finally having a partner and a home. Susana had moved to the city to look for better job opportunities five years ago. Since she had not been to school or attained any formal certificate, there were only limited chances of what she could do. She was making and selling local wine . The income from that barely supports her Mother and daughter, who were leaving in the village surviving through the small support she sends. She was struggling with rent, food and other necessities. So now that Vincent is a landlord, and they moved in together, makes things way better for her because some of the expenditures are cut off her shoulders, like spending on rent
Given the condition at which Vincent was always in, Suzanne found the house very messy. She started organizing things to make the place better.. Every time she cleaned, she kept finding tablets all around the floor. She started wondering what exactly were the tablets for.? After some.long investigations, she finally found out the truth that she was never informed about prior to the relationship. Vincent her partner was sick, HIV positive.
Being ignorant about the condition, she didn’t know what steps to take. Finding treatment or reporting the crime of being tricked into getting infected with HIV. As if not enough, the family of Vincent and some of the tenants were very hostile towards her, mistreating her to the maximum. Reaching a point of quitting the relationship.
Bad as it is, Susana had no clue how to go about with her status. The procedures for checking her status and how to administer the medication. After sometimes of separation from Vincent, she moved on to another partner who also never knew about her status. Vincent also found a new partner who was a equally not aware about the disease. So the spreading of HIV was continues.
