Prophecy of the Horn

Listen.
The cow remembers what the mouth forgets.
The horn remembers what the king denies.

When balance is sold for praise,
when the milk turns thin in the bowl,
when the spear drinks without permission,
and the stars refuse their names;

then the taken things will wake.

Children will dream in languages older than their teeth.
They will walk into museums like graves,
and the glass will not protect the thieves.

Sixteen opens the ear.
Twenty-one opens the road.

And the mountain that swallowed the Chwezi

will open only once;

not for the wise,

not for the strong,

but for the ones who can carry memory

without turning it into a weapon.
