How to Receive Gifts from Readers on Muwado

Gifting is one of the most direct ways readers support your work on Muwado. Here is how it works and how to make the most of it.

How gifting works

After reading your story, readers see a prompt: “If this story moved you, appreciate the storyteller.” They can send you a gift instantly — no friction, no complicated process.

Two types of gifts

One-off gift

A reader sends any amount from $1 minimum at any time via:

  • Mobile money
  • Debit or credit card
  • Pesapal

Monthly recurring gift

A reader sets a fixed amount and it auto-charges to their card every month. This is the more powerful option — 50 readers giving $1/month is steady, predictable income. Think of it as your reader community supporting your writing career.

What happens when you receive a gift

  1. You get an instant email notification with the gift details
  2. The funds appear in your Muwado dashboard automatically
  3. You can withdraw any time to your bank account or mobile money

How to increase your gift income

  • Write consistently. Readers who follow your work regularly are more likely to gift
  • Write stories that move people. The emotional connection drives the gift — not the length or topic
  • Tag your stories well so they reach readers who care about your subject
  • Share early. Stories that get views in the first 24–48 hours rank higher in the newsletter, reaching more potential supporters

Withdrawing your earnings

Log in to your dashboard, navigate to your earnings, and request a payout to your bank account or mobile money wallet. There is no minimum hold period.

“If this meant something to you, an appreciation means something to me.”
