On Saturday, 18th April 2026, the highly anticipated Filmmakers Mix & Mingle made a powerful comeback, re-establishing itself as a key professional networking platform for the film industry. The event, which had been on hiatus since its last edition in 2019, returned with renewed energy and purpose, drawing a vibrant crowd of creatives eager to connect, learn, and grow.
Held at the UICT Hub Auditorium in Nakawa, this first 2026 edition was carefully curated to serve actors and producers, two of the most critical pillars of the film ecosystem. The focus was evident throughout the day’s programming, which featured a variety of engaging and practical activities tailored to meet the needs of these groups.
One of the standout highlights was the provision of free professional headshots, giving actors an opportunity to enhance their portfolios. In addition, attendees participated in insightful panel discussions covering essential industry topics such as film distribution, intellectual property and copyright, personal branding, casting processes, and the working relationship between actors and producers. These sessions sparked meaningful conversations and offered valuable knowledge to both emerging and established practitioners.
The event attracted a diverse and committed audience, with participants traveling from across Uganda, including Arua, Mbale, Kayunga, Jinja, and Soroti. Notably, the gathering also welcomed a delegation from Kenya, underscoring the event’s growing regional appeal. In recognition of their dedication, attendees who journeyed from afar were awarded special freebies.
Looking ahead, the organizers announced that the next edition of Filmmakers Mix & Mingle will take place on 21st November 2026, with entry fee details to be communicated in due course. They also revealed plans for an actors’ bootcamp scheduled for June or July, aimed at nurturing and equipping new talent entering the industry.
The success of the event was made possible through the support of various partners and sponsors, with special appreciation extended to the Uganda Communications Commission for their significant contribution.
Filmmakers Mix & Mingle is hosted by Actors Forge Africa, Making Ug Films Famous, and Cinema Ug, organizations dedicated to advancing the visibility and professionalism of Uganda’s film industry. With its strong return, the event has once again positioned itself as a vital space for connection, collaboration, and industry growth.
