It’s that time of the month when nostalgia is at its peak, that time of the month when you are eagerly waiting for that bank alert…and by week’s end, your friends will be asking “What’s the plan?”. It’s a bitter-sweet kind of experience, the in-between of a smile and a frown. Whether to buy that bucket of chicken and a bottle of wine or whiskey (you know; splurge a little 😉 ), or pay up all bills and hope there is some left over. Either way, we have a couple of ideas for you this week’s end;
Dr Hilary Okello is Africa’s Doctor of comedy, hailing from the PEARL OF AFRICA (Uganda), where he is known as Uganda’s finest stand-up comedian. His career launched in 2017 when he was among the top 5 finalists of the Next Top Comedian competition that was at Theatre Labonita then. After that, it has been one stage after the other both national and international. He has represented his country on international stages like the Seka Live International Comedy Show in Kigali and at the renowned Laugh Festival in Nairobi, Kenya. Imagine dropping a stethoscope for a microphone, and still able to “immunize” you with his jokes against all negative energy. Jokes from Far Away folks, come 1st May, 2026.
Laughing your way into a weekend is one way to know you’re going to have a good one. And what’s a weekend without some melodic rhythm. Picture it being dusk, sunset kissing the horizon and the atmosphere is filled with sound waves drifting off island drums accompanied with Afro-roots melodies. Well, NDERE CULTURAL CENTRE has a ROOTS & VIBES train running through on 2nd May, 2026. One thing I know about Africa; everything that comes out of Africa is timeless. Our culture, artifacts, stories, fashion and even our music. In a nutshell, Afro-roots is a must try for live band fanatics.
An African Rapper and performer from Uganda, under the Babana Basha Record Label released his first EP _ NDURA with female soul artist Sharon Sento in 2016. He has performed at a number of prominent stages like the Nyege Nyege Festival, Blankets and Wine, Pulse JAM fest feat. Casper Nyovest, All for water concert in Rwanda and the Kiliffi New Year festival in Mombasa, Kenya. He has won awards like; 2017 UG HipHop Eastern Rapper of the year, 2018 Ugandan Music Awards MALE Rapper of the Year. and 2020 Collaboration of the year in the UG Hip Hop Awards. Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you…BYG BEN SUKUYA celebrating 10 years in the music industry. What a milestone worth celebrating with the fanbase.
One funny thing about salary week; it will remind you of the number of responsibilities you have. The nostalgia this week carries is…<speechless>. But on the bright side, we get to celebrate those that put in the work to make ends meet. Those that no matter what, get up every day and get to the grind. It’s a HAPPY LABOR DAY come 1st May, 2026. A reminder that your effort and sweat do not go unnoticed.
