A Ugandan film has reached a major international milestone as Last Taxi to Kawempe, directed by Walta Gabriel Busulwa, prepares for its World Premiere at the prestigious New York African Film Festival.

The landmark screening is set for Saturday, May 23 at 9:15 PM at the Peter Jay Sharp Building, BAM Rose Cinemas in New York. This premiere places Ugandan storytelling on one of the most respected African film platforms globally, signaling the industry’s growing reach and recognition.

Executive Producer Sarah Owendi leads a standout team including producers Akello Isabella Francisca and Joseph Beckmas Sekiziyivu, Production Designer – Nantege Joan, and music by QuadA Group.

The film’s journey from Kawempe-Kampala to New York marks a powerful moment for the industry, showing that Ugandan narratives can command international stages and connect with new audiences worldwide.
