Kasule Douglas Benda
Filmmaker Walta Gabriel Busulwa has been selected for DOCvillage 2026, an international five-day documentary residency taking place in Sittard, the Netherlands, from October 5–9, 2026.
Busulwa will participate with his documentary project The Disco of the Dead.
DOCvillage, organised by CineSud in collaboration with Screen Talent Europe and Screen Talent NL, is designed to help emerging documentary filmmakers strengthen their projects, develop their cinematic voices and build international networks. The programme combines group sessions, practical exercises, individual coaching, workshops and masterclasses, with participants also gaining access to the wider DOCDAYS 2026 programme.
The 2026 residency brings together a select group of filmmakers for an intensive creative experience, guided by documentary professionals including John Appel, Martijn Blekendaal and Astrid Bussink. Accommodation, catering and programme activities are included as part of the residency.
For Busulwa, this is an important opportunity to further develop The Disco of the Dead while exchanging ideas with filmmakers from different backgrounds and connecting with the wider European documentary community.
And for Uganda, it is another reason to celebrate the growing international visibility of our filmmakers and our stories.
