In her ruling, justice Margaret Tibulya, who presided over both petitions against the incumbent MPs, said that Namujju didn’t possess the requisite academic qualifications to make her an MP while Kasirabo was found culpable of electoral irregularities on top of lacking academic papers.

Court which had heard and scrutinized affidavits filed by Martin Sserwanga who petitioned against  Namujju and David Mpuuga in respect of Kasirabo’s case, agreed with evidence adduced, thereby ordering the Electoral Commission to organise fresh elections in Lwengo and Kooki, respectively.

Justice Tibulya’s Friday ruling brought to 26 the number of MPs in the 10th parliament, who have lost election petitions against them and subsequently their seats.

Museveni directs Ministers on foreign investors, local industrialists

By our reporter

President Yoweri Museveni, has used the ongoing week-long cabinet retreat at Kyankwanzi to order concerned government officials particularly ministers, to put up a more enabling system for both foreign investors and local industrialists who want to invest in the country.

While speaking to Ministers, Permanent Secretaries and NRM officials on Thursday, www.muwado.com, learnt that the president expressed his concern over the delays by investors and industrialists to obtain work licenses due to ‘unending’ protocols they are required to follow.

According to Justine Kasule Lumumba, the NRM secretary General, the president now wants investors and industrialists to be in position of obtaining a working license in less than two days.

“He [the president] said that they should put in place e-government system whereby one can apply for a license online, and he gets a reply within at least three-days time though he wants it to be done within two days on the side of an investor,” said Lumumba.

The president thus directed that all protocols that hamper investors and industrialists from obtaining licenses in an expeditious manner to be scrapped off and immediately, saying that sort of that he may fail to carry Uganda into the middle-income status by 2020 as per his ambition.

On the part of traders in Uganda, Lumumba told us that the president said that banks should lower interest rates to the borrowing Ugandan industrialists.

“He said that interest rate is too high thus saying that it’s government’s role to re-capitalize some banks like Uganda Development Bank so as to give out loans at low interest rates.”

Museveni, according to Lumumba, also expressed his concern over the high corporate taxes being levied from big local companies.
