Tweny Tweny Is Far From What We Ordered

I still remember how this year started. How I waited, with everyone, looking into the sky and ululating with every shot of fireworks that lit up the sky. We all promised ourselves that 2020 would be there year for hard work and success.

The joy we all felt as we set our goals for the year. We were either at prayer overnights, recreational centres or in the comfort of our living rooms. The year looked promising and started out as such.

It even had a nice ring to it — “tweny tweny” but it is turning out to be nothing like we expected. Politicians, musicians, businessmen and women, students and many other people looked at this year as a year to leave a mark on their lives. Now, nobody is sure how it will end.

Musicians who promised club bangers can’t even leave their houses to go to studio. Traders that hoped to make higher profits than the previous year have since closed their shops. Students are seated at home instead of being at school and indulging in serious studies. Journalist need permits to hunt for the only story that’s everywhere — COVID-19, while some have now resorted to hosting the shows in their homes.

Sadly, mothers are losing their babies because they can’t make it to hospital. In a space of three weeks, the president has addressed the country about 10 times. More than five countries worldwide have declared a state of emergency. Everything is out of the norm.We started the year with so much hope. Everything might be in chaos right now but I hope we can cling on to that hope.
