In the AI era, the most valuable skill isn’t writing syntax. It’s writing intent. We all call it prompt engineering.
If you give an AI a lazy prompt lie “write a good app”, it usually gives you generic, unusable output. But if you give it something strict, with boundaries, and a clear objective, it builds magic. The quality of the output is entirely dependent on the clarity of the instruction.
I’ve realized recently: we treat our lives the exact same way.
Most of us are running on default, lazy prompts:
• ” I want to be successful.”
• ” I want to be happy.”
• “I want to have an amazing spouse.”
And then we are frustrated when the output (our daily reality), feels exhausting, unfulfilling, or completely hallucinated. We blame the environment, the market, or the company. But the truth is, our prompt was just too vague. If you don’t define the parameters, the system just guesses for you.
You have to become the prompt engineer of your own purpose. You have to define the constraints. Instead of “I want a good career,” your internal prompt needs to be: “I want to build systems that solve hard problems, in an industry that actually matters, while maintaining the bandwidth to be fully present at home.”
AI is reflecting a hard human truth: The universe, much like an LLM, usually delivers exactly what you ask for. If you don’t know what you want, you will live a default output.
Stop typing vague wishes into the terminal.
Instead, write a better prompt.
