On certain days you will wake up and break down because that is simply what life feels like, even in the very first moments of the day.
On some days you will break down as the clock ticks towards working time because you didn’t sleep the whole night, another day is here, and you must show up.
On some days you will get so angry or overwhelmed by something your boss said that it triggers a migraine which stays with you for days.
On some days you will break down in the middle of a work meeting, hold the tears back, and pretend you are just catching a cold. Quietly sniffing and hoping no one notices.
On some days you will fail to make a simple decision like what means of transport to take to work, and that alone will make you cry.
These are some of the things that happened to me as I battled Major Depressive Disorder and Generalized Anxiety Disorder.
Depression shows up differently for everyone.
Sometimes it looks like sadness.
Sometimes it looks like anger.
Sometimes it looks like exhaustion.
Sometimes it looks like someone who is smiling, working, laughing, and still silently falling apart.
The good news is this:
A depressed mind is not a permanent state of mind.
Our brains have an incredible capacity to adapt, learn, and heal. With the right support, treatment when needed, healthy habits, time, and patience, many people recover and go on to live deeply meaningful lives.
If you are in that dark place today, please know that how you feel today does not have to be how you feel forever.
Keep talking.
Keep learning.
Keep seeking support.
There is hope.
And sometimes, hope begins with simply believing that healing is possible. hashtag#mentalhealth hashtag#seeksupport hashtag#newbeginnings hashtag#awareness
