The journey toward the 5th Film & Culture Market officially began last evening with an intimate activation event held at Motiv Bugolobi, bringing together invited guests from Uganda’s creative industry for an evening of insightful discussion and strategic announcements.
The event opened with a panel discussion moderated by Maureen Owomugisha, featuring respected voices from the industry including Mathew Nabwiso, President of the Producers Guild of Uganda (PGU); Kevin Kix Byaruhanga, Director of the Kampala Film Development Foundation (KFDF); Doreen Nabbanja, Jameson Brand Ambassador; and Ninsiima Ronah Soledad.
Discussions centered on the current state of Uganda’s film ecosystem, the importance of partnerships, and the opportunities available through collaborative initiatives that strengthen both film and culture.
Speaking during the activation, Film & Culture Market founder Godfrey Musinguzi outlined the event’s key objectives. He emphasized that the market is designed to market film and culture, equip filmmakers with valuable skills, foster regional collaborations among creatives from across East Africa, and create networking opportunities with international distributors.
One of the evening’s major highlights was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Mo & So Agency Limited, represented by Ninsiima Ronah Soledad, and the Kampala Film Development Foundation. Under the agreement, Mo & So Agency Limited will serve as the producer of the 5th Film & Culture Market, scheduled to take place from September 23 to 25, 2026.
The activation signaled more than just the beginning of preparations for the upcoming market. It demonstrated a shared commitment by industry stakeholders to build stronger partnerships, expand professional development opportunities, and position Uganda’s film and cultural sectors for greater regional and international recognition.
As anticipation builds for the September event, filmmakers and creatives can look forward to a platform dedicated not only to showcasing talent but also to creating meaningful connections that could shape the future of East Africa’s creative economy.
