Connecting the Dots: Building the Future of Africa’s Creative Economy

Over the past few months, my feed has been a bit of a mishmash—ideas, thought experiments, reposts, and reflections that might have seemed a little all over the place. But as with most creative chaos, there’s a method to it.

I wear several hats—producer, entrepreneur, ecosystem builder—and often find myself torn about which one to foreground. So, I thought I’d take a moment to connect the dots and show how these pieces fit together in what I’m building and learning.

Here goes nothing:

Great Lakes Creative Producers Lab

The Great Lakes Creative Producers Lab is a film project and career development programme designed to empower emerging film producers across East Africa. Through mentorship, masterclasses, and immersive residential intensives, it builds the creative, financial, and entrepreneurial capacity needed to take projects from development to distribution—and is helping shape a new generation of producer-entrepreneurs driving the growth of African cinema.

Kiasi

Kiasi is a creator-first digital platform merging equity crowdfunding, streaming, and monetization to transform how African storytellers fund, distribute, and own their work. By turning cultural IP into investable assets, Kiasi bridges creativity and capital—empowering Africa’s $20B creative economy and redefining how audiences connect with creators.

Animation Producers Lab

Last week, I co-led the Animation Producers Lab—a four-day training designed to equip emerging animation producers in Africa with the business, creative, and technical tools to scale their projects locally and globally. The Lab strengthens production management, financing, and distribution capacity—building the foundation for a thriving animation ecosystem on the continent.

Lumina Film Fund

The Lumina Film Fund is an emerging financing vehicle focused on supporting African film and creative ventures through innovative capital models. My participation in the Launch Into VC fellowship at Dream VC is part of a larger mission—to deepen my expertise in venture financing and investment structuring so we can build sustainable funding pipelines for African creatives through initiatives like Lumina and Kiasi.

All of these threads tie into a single vision: a more equitable, sustainable, and investor-ready African creative economy—one that values its creators as builders of both culture and capital.

I’d love to hear how others are thinking about creative financing, ecosystem building, or reimagining sustainability in the arts. Let’s keep the conversation going.

The work continues.
