AFRO-KINKY.

It was on the 26th of May 2014, a Monday morning, the day I met somebody who would soon turn out to be someone I will forever live to remember. She was dressed in a yellow fluffy top, a floral Caribbean skirt that barely made it to her knees. She was not dark-skinned, not tall but not short either, she was some sort of, average. Her head was covered in what she called ‘AFRO-KINKY’, she also had on some light makeup- a little bit of mascara and other things that made her eyes look bigger and smokey, her dentition was well organized and sparkly.

A little hi, hello there and we would soon become ‘friends’, unknown to me, she was from the same college as I. We were all doing our practicum, same college, same supervisor-both field and college, same everything. We would soon become inseparable, we were like fraternal twins yet also appeared to be in some sort of understanding. This understanding would soon develop into more than what we thought it would be, a relationship.

……

Fast forward 2019 and I don’t even want to know if she is still alive. I’m in a bus heading to SOROTI and this lady wearing this thing ‘AFRO-KINKY’ is sitting next to me, she talks like that girl from 2014, she smiles like her, her dentition is well organized and sparkly. She, like the girl from 2014 has some mascara and other things that make her eyes look bigger and smokey. She reminds me very much of a beautiful encounter that would soon turn out to be my worst mistake.

Is history trying to repeat itself?

Please Mr Conductor, get me out of here.
