21ST CENTURY CREED : EMPOWERING YOUTH FOR TRANSFORMATION
Every generation is shaped by its Creed; a belief deeply rooted in the hearts of it’s people. The 21st century has ushered in something history has rarely witnessed; the power of youth and women and the fearlessness to take on leadership beyond self.
A revolution the face of the Earth can’t afford to be blind from. An awakening is being seen that is irresistible from the four corners of the Earth; stretching across technology ,entrepreneurship, education, sports, policy making, leadership, politics, gender, human rights, religion and governance with youth at thefore front.
The old narrative of ”Future Leaders“ has become outdated, like wildfire a bold generation is rising; connecting from the East to the West, north to the South with the same language to bring change that has not been recorded in the past. This change is not opposition to culture but rather challenges systems that have been slow to adapt.
The failures to address societal challenges like poverty, unemployment, conflict and environmental degradation have caused a restlessness in the minds of youth. They are made to see leadership as a responsibility than a privilege . Wellbeing of the society isn’t entitlement it has become a necessity.
One can’t overlook the fact that youth to some extent have become burdensome in the community engaging in uncalled for activities attributed to different reasons. Such reasons include unemployment, school dropout family failures and so on.
The sound is so mighty that governments, communities can’t close their ears from. To empower and equip such generation is more than success but transformation that is tangible and will last for generations. This era can be expressed as ”by the youth, with the youth and for the youth.” Societal structures, governments pay attention to this uprising. The Enthusiasm and passion centered on rewriting the narrative with boldness and courage can’t be under looked, with service beyond self is worth embracing.
Katherine Woodson says such leadership is self-directed, culturally grounded, and committed to the uplift of their own people.
Empowering youth is no longer a distant dream. It’s a present reality Africa –Uganda has to build on today. This uprising has to be guided and directed .
