11 years of EQUATE Foundation!

11 years is a crazy number. It’s actually hard to believe that this started with a simple chat with a friend when we went on a swimming date. I was at campus at the time.

There have been changes made. In 2019 EQUATE was birthed from Karabo which was basically about giving handouts to those in need. I saw that it wasn’t sustainable, so I said, “Why not Education?” “Education is expensive,” a friend expressed her fear but I assured her that we will manage.

In 2020, someone found me working on an EQUATE Newsletter and he asked if I’m an orphan. That question stopped me in my tracks. “Why would you ask that?” He said, “Because only an orphan would truly understand what it means to step in for someone”

Huh! I had never understood it that way. Ever since mom involved me in a certain charity collection when I was 8, I did not hesitate to share what I have – however little. And also growing up “borrowing” people’s fathers just to have a feel of what it’s like to have a dad, is how I know what it’s like to have…1 parent in my case.

We didn’t have enough but mom strived to make things happen. We managed.

Even with a salary or let’s track back to the pocket money (during school) that I could barely survive on, I knew that with a village, we would definitely manage by all means.

For this second duo of beneficiaries of kind hearts, God has seen us through providence and scarcity but we have managed. 2026 we shall be in P.4 and we still need a village around us.

For those that have held our hands and ensured that we stay in School, you have truly blessed us with a gift of education.

I’m definitely looking for people (at least 20) who can stand with us for the school fees and requirements. So if you’re here and you can spare a 20k per month, let me know.
