Dr. Ivan Edwards is a mission-driven healer, ordained minister, medical doctor, poet, and senior U.S. Air Force Reserve officer – serving as a flight surgeon at the rank of Colonel. He is the first known USAF Flight Surgeon of Ugandan descent. His life bridges medicine, faith, and service, offering a rare blend of clinical expertise, spiritual insight, and poetic depth.
He is board-certified in the specialty of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation with a practice focused on neurorehabilitation and comprehensive pain management.
An award-winning author, Dr. Edwards’ poetry collection, Resonance of the Soul: Flowers and Harmonics, received the Literary Titan Gold Book Award in Poetry (September 2025) and was named a Distinguished Favorite in Poetry in the 2026 Independent Press Award. His work has been featured on global platforms — including MSN, YouTube, PoetrySoup, and other literary stages, where he explores themes of healing, resilience, identity, and cultural memory.
Honored as a Kentucky Colonel and Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Dr. Edwards brings a global perspective to uplift, to heal, and to remind us that even in brokenness, beauty endures.
In November 2025, the Uganda Poetry Society launched the Dr. Ivan Edwards Poetry Award, a US$ 1,200 annual prize recognized as one of the most prestigious poetry awards in East and Central Africa. With its inaugural cycle set for 2026, the award reflects his commitment to cultural preservation and elevating Ugandan voices onto the global stage.
