How to Earn a 20% Commission by Referring Brands to Muwado

You do not need to be an advertiser to make money from the Muwado advertising programme. Introduce any business to the platform and earn 20% of every deal they sign.

How the 20% commission works

When you bring a brand or business to advertise on Muwado, you earn a flat 20% of the total value of their campaign. This applies to image ads, GIF ads, newsletter placements, and custom storytelling campaigns.

What the numbers look like

  • Pilot deal (10,000 views) — brand pays $40 → you earn $8
  • Mid-tier deal (100,000 views) — brand pays $400 → you earn $80
  • Anchor deal (1,000,000 views) — brand pays $4,000 → you earn $800

Image ad rates used above. GIF ad rates and custom campaign values will vary — all deals apply the same 20%.

Who can you refer?

Any business across Africa (or beyond) that could benefit from reaching Muwado’s audience — which is:

  • Age 18–50, African, digitally engaged
  • Across categories: tech, health, finance, lifestyle, agriculture, fashion, culture
  • From Nairobi to Lagos, Kampala to Accra, Johannesburg to Dakar

Think: local brands, NGOs, startups, restaurants, clinics, events, schools, telecoms, consumer goods. Any brand that needs to reach this audience is a potential referral.

How to make a referral

  1. Identify a potential advertiser. Talk to brands you know, businesses you interact with, employers, or anyone with a product or service for the African market.
  2. Share the Muwado pitch. Send them the Muwado Advertising Kit or direct them to muwado.com/ads. Key messages:
    • First month free for new clients
    • Performance-based billing — pay for results only
    • 3,000+ storytellers, 10,000+ newsletter subscribers, 5,000+ daily visitors
    • UNDP-validated platform
  3. Introduce them to Muwado. Email [email protected] to make a formal introduction. CC the brand contact so the connection is clear.
  4. When the deal closes, you earn. Once the brand signs up and runs a campaign, your 20% is credited. Muwado tracks referrals from initial introduction.

Tips for making the pitch work

  • Lead with the first month free offer — it removes the risk from the conversation
  • Mention that 84% of people trust brands more when they use real community content
  • Remind them that ad spend on Muwado goes back to African creators — that is a brand value alignment story, not just an ad placement
