Today, I am reminiscing the resolutions arrived at during the British Chamber of Commerce Uganda (BCCU)’s 1st Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Its impressive the growth and diversity that has been actualised during the short life (slightly over a year) of the chamber thus far with 42 registered members across 17 sectors.
One may wonder, why do I have to go through the rigors of joining a business Group including: incurring not so meagre membership fees, time spent in numerous meetings / engagements?
From the conversations held during the AGM, the chamber reiterated that their critical mandate is:
– Create a platform for businesses to share their success stories and best practices to inspire growth of others.
– Facilitate an enabling business environment for members of the chamber to thrive.
– Enable individuals connect with others to facilitate potential business relationships among members.
The critical achievements actualised by the chamber during the year 2025 included:
– Initiating compilation of critical issues affecting members of the chamber through a survey which will form the road map of key areas of focus during the year 2026.
– Engagements with the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) and the Ministry of Finance, Planning & Economic Development (MoFPED) to build relationships that would enable mutual benefits in the future.
From the conversations, favourable policy is core to growth of the members and identification of cross-cutting issues of the various sectors in which the members operate is a crucial first step in advocating for an environment in which sustainable businesses can operate which the member organisations may not have been able to achieve on their own.
