OMWAAVU WA KUFA ("THE POOR ARE TO DIE" )

There’s a saying here at Nnalubaale of recent; “Omwaavu wa kufa”.

What this means is, loosely translated;

(Due to prevailing conditions), “The poor are to die”. (As if the rich don’t die, but I digress).

When I was still a Bible reader, certain verses always stood out to me.

MATTHEW 26 Verse 11 (KJV)

26:7 There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.

26:8 But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste?

26:9 For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.

26:10 When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me.

26:11 FOR YE HAVE THE POOR ALWAYS WITH YOU; BUT ME YE HAVE NOT ALWAYS.

Over and over again, I meditate on that verse.

That’s why I listen with trepidation, to Politicians who lie to the people day in day out, that they will end poverty.

The miracle-working King of the Jews, worshipped by multitudes, laid out this reality, albeit allegedly.

There will always be poor people, and there will always be rich people who lavish scented ointments on the heads of Kings and Queens (Rulers).

Mere mortal, try very hard not to make promises you cannot keep, nor have control over.
