No offence intended, but my focus in this picture is on the young man wearing ill-fitting, drab clothes, dusty old shoes, and an emaciated disposition (brown hair, forlorn eyes, and chapped lips).
The picture and situation of your average especially young Ugandan.
There are three or so other dusty pairs of shoes, and some wardrobe malfunctions on display, but let’s attribute that to boyish clumsiness and focus on the young man. Perhaps the group parked far and had to walk to meet Col Edith Nakalema…gathering dust in the process.
I want to briefly demonstrate the callousness of the ruling family and its hangers-on.
First, there’s little doubt that the young man is not from the same social standing as the rest who met Nakalema—a fabulously rich, voluptuous, and apparently healthy lady—who heads an illegal outfit created by Gen Yoweri Museveni.
Second, it is certain that his life is not going to change, merely because he met Nakalema or even Museveni himself. Yet his peers are going to pester him with all kinds of material requests, believing that he has “fallen in things.”
Finally, with that photo op, whatever political efforts (genuine or opportunistic) he has been involved in have been neutralised. And the NRM has no use for him after sanitising themselves with him. Nor do his friends who think he is “eating behind their backs”.
Fellow young people, don’t be enticed to join the NRA or dialogue with them about anything! They don’t care about you, will not improve your stead in life in any meaningful way, and will immediately forget after discarding you.
I have a peer who was lured with a 2021 Toyota Landcruiser TX vehicle which is rotting away in a garage because he suddenly realised that he can neither fuel nor service it. He already insulted people and burnt bridges after receiving the car, but is now living a desolate and miserable existence. Meanwhile, his handlers expect him to continue running the regime’s propaganda schemes!
Proximity to power shouldn’t delude you into thinking that you wield it.
Christians like to say that “the Devil comes but to steal, kill, and destroy”. Replace the word “Devil” with “NRA” or “NRM”, as some of you call it.
