Pot holes on the road to destiny

About twenty years ago, one of my favourite Gospel Ministers, TD Jakes preached a sermon that has never got out of my head;

Potholes on the road to destiny

In this sermon, he preached about how the man or woman with a destiny is not immune to challenges on the way and how they should actually expect them.

It prepared me for what I would encounter many years later and for today’s Lunch bite may be.

This sermon came to mind today as I reflected on my theme scripture for today’s Bite

Hebrews 11:9 (AMP)

[Prompted] by faith he dwelt as a temporary resident in the land which was designated in the promise [of God, though he was like a stranger] in a strange country, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, fellow heirs with him of the same promise.

Imagine how Abraham felt.  Living in tents….a temporary resident…in a strange country…but with God’s promise that…

Genesis 12:2

And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you [with abundant increase of favors] and make your name famous and distinguished, and you will be a blessing [dispensing good to others].

What had happened?

He had hit a pothole on the road to destiny.

Contrary to what some have taught, having a word from God doesn’t mean you will not have challenges along the way.

It’s possible to have a word that you are going to feed a Prophet when you have one meal to eat and then die. (1 Kings 17:9-13).  It is possible to face a severe storm when Jesus personally saw you off to the other side. (Matthew 14:22-32) That’s an understatement. It’s possible to find yourself in a storm when Jesus is sleeping in your boat. (Matthew 8:23-28). It’s possible to be shipwrecked when you are on your way to do God’s assignment. (Acts 27 ) Yea, it is possible to have a viper tie itself around your arm when you have just come out of the shipwreck. (Acts 28)

What on Earth am I trying to say?

That all kinds of challenges will come your way when you have a promise from God.

You may find yourself in a temporary structure when God told you would have the biggest church in the city.

You may find yourself childless five years into your marriage when God even told you the names of your children.

You may fail the first four interviews after qualifying yet God told you, He was going to use you in the corporate sector.

You may find yourself battling all sorts of ailments yet God spoke to you about a healing Ministry.

You may have closed the first four businesses you attempted, even before their first birthday, yet God told you years ago that, you have been given special grace for business.

You may find your marriage in trouble six years down the road yet God clearly spoke to you years ago, that your marriage would minister to many.

You may have stuttered in your first sermon or even completed failed to speak yet you had a word from God that you would be a great minister of the Gospel.

You may have lost the last two elections yet you are sure God has called you to Parliament.

What is all this?

Potholes on the road to destiny.

They will come. The enemy will throw everything at you, so that you can give up.

DON’T.

Learn from Abraham. Keep believing even in your ‘temporarily circumstances‘. Keep moving. Keep your eye on Him who spoke. Keep trying to call (pray) even when there is a ‘temporary interference in the service’.

He will keep His Word.

He will take you there.

He always does.
