France Aiding Morocco To Colonise Western Sahara

Uganda Solidarity Movement with Western Sahara is calling for the total liberation of Western Sahara, according to the leader of the movement in Uganda, the desert country is still under colonization.

The current situation in Western Sahara is evil tolerated for too long. Western Sahara is the only African territory still under direct colonial rule. After Spain withdrew from its former colony of Spanish Sahara in 1976, Morocco annexed the northern two-thirds of Western Sahara and claimed the rest of the territory in 1979, following Mauritania’s withdrawal. A war with the POLISARIO Front (in Spanish: Frente Popular de Libiracion de Saguia y Rio de Oro) contesting Morocco’s colonial occupation ended in 1991 cease-fire. The SADR (Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic) was seated as a member in the Organization of African Unity in 1984, consequently, Morocco withdrew from it.

The UN sought to offer a choice to the people of Western Sahara between Independence or integration into Morocco, the proposed referendum on the question of Independence never took place since 1992 due to sabotage by Morocco and her allies especially France which had defended Morocco even in the United Nations. The refusal of the new King of Morocco to any peaceful solutions has sparked fears that without a return to war and won by the POLISARIO Front, the promised referendum will never happen.

Morocco maintains a heavy security presence in the Saharawi occupied territory asserting her de facto rule by brutal force. To date, the United Nations describes Western Sahara as a Non-self Governing Territory. For the African Union, Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) remains the only African territory under colonial rule.

Court verdict against Morocco’s occupation of Western Sahara

The International Court of Justice ruled that indigenous Saharawis, not Morocco, should have self-determination over Western Sahara. This position was reinforced in 2016 when the European Court of Justice ruled that Western Sahara is not part of Moroccan territory. In the latter ruling, it even specifically meant that the EU’s agreements with Morocco cannot cover the Western Sahara territory unless the same had the consent of the people of Western Sahara. Surprisingly, more than four decades of European passivity and complicity with the illegal occupying Moroccan force continued even after this ruling, manifested in natural resources exploitation deals where Morocco continues to earn millions of funds from the EU for resources which do not belong to her especially fisheries and phosphate mines.

Issues:

In 2018, both the UN Security Council and the AU itself adopted resolutions, which were seen as sidelining the AU to leave everything of the Saharawi issue to the UN.

Morocco supported by especially France on the UN Security Council is opposed to the idea that the United Nations should add a human rights monitoring mechanism in the mandate of its peacekeeping mission (MINURSO, in French: Mission des Nations Unies pour le Referendum ou Sahara Occidental) in Western Sahara.

The Polisario Front has intermittently threatened to resume fighting, referring to the Moroccan refusal of a referendum as a breach of the terms of the AUUN peace settlement…

Uganda Solidarity Movement with Western Sahara-Uganda are calling on all meaning Africans to join in condemning what they termed has 21st-century era colonization, they also rebuke France strongly over the devilish roles they have on Africa for many decades now.

Our unwavering support for the realization of the inalienable rights of the people of Western Sahara is consistent with the charter of the UN as well the AU constitutive Act

  1. The Western Sahara Community, sovereign south Morocco, believes that it’s time for Africa to retrieve seriousness credibility & realism. The non-sovereign South Algeria Democratic Republic (SADR) has nothing to do with the Western Sahara Territory. SADR was admitted to the OAU/AU against the article IV of the 1963 charter. SADR was admitted in a context of tense diplomacy inside the OAU between Morocco (belonging to the USA block) & algeria&Kaddafi (belonging to the USSR block). Cold war has gone. Africa today-challenges impose wisdom and realism. The USSR block tried to divide Morocco to establish a pro-USSR republic in the south of Morocco in order to face the USA through the Atlantic ocean. This maneuver wasn’t successful. Then, the algerian army found in this maneuver a way to diminish Morocco to keep the regional leadership. The algerian army should realize that Morocco will remain ONE. The Western Sahara community is proud to belong to the Moroccan nation. The WS community supports the struggle of the algerian saharawi (polisario) who want to be free in South Algeria. If South Sudan got its independence, the algerian army should also let the algerian saharawi decide for their fate. 44 years of sequestration and SLAVERY in Tindouf gulags are enough. The United Nations should work hard to prepare such referendum in algeria. Thanks
