As a facilitator with a bunch of creatives, I shared my numerous stories of how I messed up in my career and entrepreneurship journey. I recounted how I had tried over 24 ventures or careers and how only about 5 were surviving. I shared my frustrations at trying to save a business that I loved yet was draining me. I talked about walking away from a profitable business that just didn’t sing to my soul. I talked about walking away from business partners, or being robbed by others or sticking with some for years. I talked about not buying a new pair of trousers for years. I talked about listening to bad advice and ignoring good one. I talked about learning and focusing. I talked about systems, sales, patience, anger etc.
At the end of it all, one lady stood up and said
“You have given me the courage to close my business”
We were surprised.
“I have always been afraid to close these failing businesses. I wondered what people would think of me. They would see me as a failure.”
Turns out she had started 11 businesses and was trying to keep all of them afloat even after the business models had failed. She is restructuring to remain with three interconnected businesses that are working. She is no longer waiting to exhale.
