DEAR 2024 GRADUATE…

Congratulations on reaching this significant milestone! You are now stepping into an expansive world of endless possibilities, much like I did back in 2004.

Reflecting on the past two decades, I’ve gathered some insights to share with you:

1. The next 100 days mark your magical transition period:

Embrace this time as your neurons adjust to the reality of adulthood. Take it slow, and indulge in activities you’ve always desired, like exploring new places with friends. Cherish these moments, as the memories will bring smiles for years to come.

2. Use part of this magical period to contemplate your direction:

The world is brimming with opportunities, often disguised as challenges. Reset your mindset positively during this period. Unveil the potential hidden within apparent problems.

3. Master the use of privacy filters on your social media accounts:

Avoid giving the wrong impression to potential employers. Remember, people tend to explore your online presence. This rule applies beyond your personal life.

4. Differentiate battles worth fighting for and those that aren’t:

Learn to survive today’s challenges for a better tomorrow. This skill is not only kinder to your skin but also to your overall well-being.

5. Practice forgiveness, both towards others and yourself:

Be kind, as mistakes are inevitable. Care for your bruised self, becoming your own cheerleader along the journey.

6. Prioritize self-care:

Your actions today affect your well-being in your 30s. Apply Newton’s third law to your life—every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

7. Develop diverse skills:

While your degree is like owning a car, soft skills are the fuel. Without the Fuel, you won’t go anywhere. Join jdi.ac.ug for quick 3-6 months courses to enhance your skills. Many of your peers have already joined.

8. Dream big, soar high, and fight for your dreams:

Remember, you are the architect of your destiny. Despite the world shrinking rapidly, endless possibilities await those who pursue their dreams with determination.

Wishing you a bright future ahead!
