CONFESSIONS OF A ( ? )

We wish you to stay perpetually young

Not in your skin, but in your need to lean

To need us continually

Not because you aren’t able

But to prove you see us worth

We want you to stay vulnerable

So we may play protector and provider

We expect you to treat us as kings

To feed our egos, calm our insecurities

So we can name you Queen to our world

But the moment you take your space

The instant you claim your own throne

We retreat into warrior mode

Withdraw into the cramped territories of manhood

And when we speak then, it is in the gruff tongue reserved for man to man

And in bed?
