Opportunities For Storytellers

Calling All African Storytellers! Untold Stories on SRHR-Akina Mama wa Afrika (AMwA)

Akina Mama wa Afrika (AMwA) is excited to announce an open call for bold and transformative stories that amplify the voices of African women and girls. We are looking for compelling narratives that address the critical issues of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), with a particular focus on how these intersect with politics, civic space, economic justice, and climate justice.

To support these impactful stories, AMwA is offering 10-15 storytelling grants, ranging from $500 to $2,000. This grant is designed to help bring your ideas to life, with flexibility in the format of your project. Whether you want to write an article, create a podcast, film a short documentary, or produce a photo series, we are here to support you in making your vision a reality.

•Eligibility: Open to African storytellers who are passionate about issues related to SRHR, civic space, economic justice, and climate justice. If your story aligns with these themes and you believe in the power of storytelling to create social change, we want to hear from you!

The Women’s Prize for Playwriting 2025

The Women’s Prize for Playwriting was founded in 2019 to champion and produce plays by female and non-binary writers, campaigning for a fairer and more equitable industry.

The Winner receives £20,000 and the winning script is optioned by the Women’s Prize for Playwriting, Ellie Keel Productions, Paines Plough and Sheffield Theatre The play is published by Concord Theatricals.

The Sprinng Writing Fellowship for African Writers

The Sprinng Writing Fellowship is an intensive 6-week online mentorship program for developing African writers and currently between the ages 18 and 25, who have not published a book before (eBook/hardcopy). This fellowship focuses on 4 genres of literature: Poetry, Fiction, Creative Nonfiction, and Book Review.


Eligibility Guidelines for SprinNG Writing Fellowship

•The SprinNG Writing Fellowship is open only to writers who have not published a book before (eBook/hardcopy).

•Applicant Must be a Nigerian or Ghanaian citizen, residing in Nigeria or Ghana

•In addition, applicants must be between the ages 18 to 25

Submission Guidelines for SprinNG Writing Fellowship

•You are expected to write a short biography about yourself, as well as write about your writing style.

•More so, entrants are to have samples for submission specifically for your preferred category.

•The medium of communication between the mentors and mentees throughout this programme will be via email, phone calls, WhatsApp, and text messages. Additionally, all mentees will be provided weekly N500/¢10 airtime during the programme.

Storytelling With Data Fellowship 2025

Applications are now open for the 2025 Storytelling with Data Fellowship. The fellowship aims to support gender advocates in seeing data as a tool they can wield—one that strengthens their storytelling, fuels their activism, and makes their demands for change impossible to ignore. Through blogs, videos, podcasts, interactive data visualizations, and even art, we will work with feminist advocates to bring gender data to life —working together to shift narratives, shape policies, and mobilize action for a more gender equal world.

Program Details
Over the course of six months, (the program foresee fellows spending between 120-180 hours over 6 months) the Storytelling with Data Fellowship will take feminist advocates on a journey—one that transforms raw gender data into compelling narratives that demand attention and action. The fellowship is structured into four key phases, each designed to guide fellows from data exploration to storytelling and dissemination.

•Onboarding (April 1st) – Fellows will dive into the 2024 SDG Gender Index, unpacking regional trends and challenges while identifying key gender data stories in their local contexts.

•Mentorship & Training (April – May 2025) – Through hands-on workshops and one-on-one guidance, fellows will learn how to craft powerful narratives, visualize data, and tailor their stories for different audiences.

•Storytelling Production (June – August 2025) – With support from EM2030, fellows will bring their ideas to life—creating blogs, videos, podcasts, infographics, and more.

• Dissemination & Amplification (September 2025) – The final phase focuses on finalizing high-quality storytelling products that will be disseminated on all EM2030 communication platforms.

• Each cohort will include six fellows—two from each region (LAC, Asia, and Africa)

-Each fellow will receive a stipend of $500 to cover the fellowship duration.

The stipend will be paid in two instalments:

o50% at the start of the fellowship after onboarding.

o50% upon successful submission of final outputs.

This stipend is intended to cover any costs related to the production of their storytelling pieces, such as tools, software, or other expenses. Please note that no additional funds will be provided beyond the stipend, so fellows are encouraged to plan their projects and expenses accordingly.
