A few days ago, I bumped into a young woman. She introduced herself and said something which both caught my attention and humbled me at the same time.
“I knew I would meet you one day and planned what I would say to you when it happened.”
Can we just sit with that for a few seconds? How prepared are you for when ‘it’ happens?
Anyways, we spoke for a while (to be honest, she did most of the speaking, I listened). Aida* warmed my heart as she spoke about her Social Enterprise. Her passion is almost palpable.
I will share something else she said.
“When I was starting out and struggling with partnerships and funding, I would go back and read your posts then find the courage to push on. If you have survived for all these years, then so can we.”

I often talk to people who say some version of “Your posts are too long, I never finish them.” Others question my decision to be ‘publicly’ vulnerable.
My simple answer is Aida, and others like her whom I sometimes don’t even get to meet. They reach out with an example of a moment I barely remember and I find that I am the one who then feels immensely blessed and encouraged.
Why am I experiencing all this if I can’t share lessons so that others are better equipped?
I visited Aida’s page later that night and was simply amazed by the work her and her team are doing. Her dedication to education is something else.
She is such a force!
One of these days, I will share her ‘full’ story.

When you see light in someone do you tell them or directly/indirectly dim it?
Do you use your voice to lift others or bring them down?
I have always had a list of people whom I would like to meet and/or learn from. Thanks to Aida, I am going to go a step further and prepare for them in advance.
I shall not embarrass myself and get tongue-tied when I meet Michelle (Obama) kukyambuka.
May your Thursday be filled with light
