Twegaite international, a once leading Diaspora organization has become an embarrassing shell of itself as shown from lack of cohesion amongst members and leadership, disappearance of both programs in the USA and Uganda, disappearance of funds, leadership that has stayed in power for over a decade and a series of lackluster conventions especially the recent one in Dallas.
Twegaite had great originators many of whom also became founding members of UNAA. Twegaite revival in Houston TX in 2007, was based on a solid foundation of inclusiveness and an apolitical agenda which was strictly enforced. There was an adoption of one year of convention and one year of actual work in all Twegaite communities and much was achieved.
There were several successful programs in Uganda: Twegaite had become an International organization with projects associated with treating cancer and renovated Jinja Hospital grade B for cancer treatment, Tourism, Mayuge health center, Bugembe health clinic, Kidhera primary school, Alininkira women projects, Rural women farmers, Microfinance, engaging collaboration of international institutions and cities to partner in the development of Busoga, and so many others. Twegaite was a full certified nonprofit in Uganda and the USA.
WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENED?
Trouble started after the Hostile hijack of the organization by Mr. Tony Isubikalu, Mr. Victor Lukandwa, Ms. Juliet Aliyinza, and a one Situka of Tx. The hijacking of the organization by power hungry and financially broke individuals led to mismanaging and misappropriation of funds and projects. It also saw the constitution overthrown. No elections of new leaders or change of leadership has taken place in over a decade.
Projects such as the cancer treatment center a Basoga community of California initiative was mercilessly handed over to Mr. Situka to house his hospice patients-a personal business. All funds donated to the Jinja cancer treatment center and other projects, including eitala lya Kyabazinga were hijacked at the stage at the 2015 convention in Minnesota by the self-made leaders and thereafter, the funds were diverted to their personal use and buying vehicles for Mr. situka’s personal business. Those actions sparked bitterness among the Basogas of sober minds and well-wishers. The bitterness led to the boycott of all fundraising and convention activities. More bitterness sparked after within 3 months of hijacking the organization, all other projects were abandoned. The following conventions in, the Greater NYC area, Washington DC, New Jersey and eventually the last one in Dallas TX continued to show a degradation and ineptness of leadership and embarrassment.
From 2019, the organization became totally dormant after it was handed to Mr. Peter Mukunya, a truck driver who lacked both the knowledge about the organization and the technical know-how of running a charity organization. Mr. Mukunya also led UNAA at its lowest functioning level when he was the Secretary.
After almost 6 years of dormancy, at the Dallas convention, the trio deliberately refused to elect new leaders, citing the Deputy prime minister of Uganda and minister of East African community affairs, speaker Emeritus of the 9th and 10th parliament of Uganda- Rebecca Kadaga as the reason for not conducting elections. (that she did not like the new team). Approximately 2 months after the Dallas convention, Mr. Victor Lukandwa the treasurer for over decade was made president of the organization by his longtime friends, Aliyinza and Isubikalu. For over a decade Mr. Lukandwa was the treasurer of the organization, and never produced any financial report or accountability. During his tenure of over a decade, Twegaite lost all programs, lost its nonprofit status in the USA, its NGO status in Uganda, the office and the team in Uganda, as well as all the international affiliations.
WHY I AM ATTENDING TWEGAITE GLOBAL CONVECTION IN LOS ANGELES:
For me as one of the Architect of Twegaite International, I will be attending the Twegaite Global Convention in Los Angeles and will also be involved in directing that organization. The convention in LA is focused on the rejuvenating the projects and programs and affiliations that were in operation before the hostile takeover. They need all our support.
- Attending Minnesota convention is another way of supporting stagnation of Busoga development.
- Knowing the truth and the right but choosing to support lies and wrong is the same thing as shooting self in the foot. Say No to Minnesota
- No work done for over a decade, so I say No to Minnesota.
- whether you are looking for fun or a platform to discuss solutions to Busoga problems; Twegaite Global in Los Angeles is a better choice.
- The focused leaders have already started to jam start all the projects that we lost in the last decade. They need everyone’s support.

WHAT DOES THE FUTURE LOOK LIKE?
The future looks bleak for Twegaite International, hence some of the former founders including myself, the architect of Twegaite International decided to form Twegaite Global for the reasons below:
- To revive programs that were the true representation of what Twegaite stood for.
- Maybe force the Trio Isubikalu, Aliyinza, Lukandwa) to reconsider their stance on leading Twegaite forever considering how they have crippled the organization.
- Then maybe eventually one day to come back together as one organization and regroup as intended initially.
The parallel convention in Minnesota celebrating 25 years of Twegaite
How are they going to cerebrate without the people who made twegaite international?
What is there left to celebrate after a decade of decay? What have they achieved in their last decade in leadership?
We the architects of twegaite international cannot cerebrate the downfall and embarrassing images of our organization, the loss of all programs and affiliations, we can’t cerebrate totalitarianism and disunity.
I am therefore appealing to my family, friends, my network, supporters and all people of good will to come to Los Angeles on May 22nd-26th 2025, so that together we revive Twegaite again under the Umbrella of Twegaite Global. We understand there is a lot of smearing of these activities as has always been the case, but I encourage you to ignore that misinformation and maligning of Twegaite Global leaders and come we re-build our organization together. See you soon during Memorial weekend 22-26 May 2025
Sincerely,
D, W Dhikusoka
