WHEN I DIE…

When I die.

Carry my bones delicately,

Don’t take big strides, walk softly,

Let the ground feel your feet brushing over it gently,

Let my bones shake quietly,

Not too loud but let my bones make music proudly.

Carry my bones delicately,

Don’t take big strides, walk softly,

Like you’re tiptoeing around a pack of hungry dogs, their breath hot in your ankles, but still,

Let your toes tiptoe softly,

Let my bones sleep comfortably,

Let my bones find safety.

Carry my bones delicately,

Don’t take big strides, walk softly,

Kiss my cheekbones and caress my chips like finger bones the way you would a newborn baby with chubby cheeks and a soft pillow like body.

Carry my bones delicately,

Please don’t  take big strides, walk softly.

And when you arrive at a place so heavenly,

Calmly lay my bones on a bed of pink roses and cover me with white feathers,

Sing life into my bones and hope my flesh gloriously blooms out of every, ball and socket joint to warmly embrace me.

Carry my bones delicately,

Don’t take big strides, walk softly,

And if it’s not too much to ask,

Don’t break me, love me.

And if you can’t,

Walk away softly.
