Welcome to Self-Employment

From My Bedroom to the World

I am and will always be a conventional employee, I love working in an office where you work with others, meet people, create your own connections then you get the job done impeccably. At the end of the month, you get paid. An easy system that makes sense and fits into all logical structures of the conventional career process.

Once this pandemic started, my attitude towards the “working process” has shifted dramatically. I had to face my fear of not having a comfortable 9 to 5 job and think outside the box. This 2 month period when I was on lockdown in my room, I was forced by the universe to create my own career, work harder on creating connections and move outside my comfort zone to create opportunities which will not only develop my skills but will generate some kind of income for me and my child as a single parent.

YouTube Maya’s 249 Bubble

I had to use all the resources which were available online and I looked back at all my platforms and thought of using them for my own development. Since the lockdown, I created a YouTube Channel where I upload random stories of my everyday life. I am fully aware that this channel will not generate an income for me but it was helping me develop my editing skills and work on my presentation skills. On top of all that, making videos helped me spend more time with my son whom I neglected for a very long period while I was focusing on my career development. My relationship with my only child started becoming stronger and the bond between us grew drastically. Keeping a balanced, healthy relationship  was not my aim but I am grateful it was developed!

Since I stopped going to the radio station because of the complete lockdown in Khartoum, Sudan, I started missing my time on the radio when I used to be the voice of the morning show. Again thinking outside the box and making use of my resources, I though of creating live shows on Instagram. My live shows are daily on Instagram where I get to speak to inspirational individuals who are making a difference in the society. I interviewed influencers, models, entrepreneurs, business owners, journalists, Djs, directors, etc.

Using that platform for my daily interviews developed not only my interviewing skills but it helped me create a great network of professionals that are beyond the country. I created a global network where I met people from different parts of the world who inspired me to continue working on myself to develop my dream. My guests are pure gifts to my audience who watch each episode and to me too.

Facebook Maya’s Hamishiyat

Now Facebook on the other hand, was one of the platforms I used to promote my YouTube channel Maya’s 249 Bubble. I also use it to share some motivational quotes sending some positive messages that will not only help me overcome my daily challenges and obstacles but will keep me motivated to continue doing my work online.

The internet is not just a tool to be used for entertainment, you can also use it to develop your entreprenuerial skills. Thanks to the internet, a country like Sudan is easily connecting to the outside world, allowing the international community to know its stories.

Creating your own opportunities on the internet in our times is not easy nor does it transform your career in a split second, however, it is a valid way for you to continue developing your career while staying in the comfort of your own room and around family members you really care about. It is one of the options you do have and it can easily be used for your own benefit.
