UGANDAN FILMMAKERS REPRESENT AT TALENTS DURBAN AND DURBAN FILMMART 2025

A delegation of Ugandan filmmakers made a strong impression at this year’s Talents Durban and Durban FilmMart 2025, held from July 18th to 21st in South Africa. Among those in attendance were celebrated filmmaker Kizito Samuel Saviour, producers Claire Sheila Birungi (i am going to make an independent article about this lady’s story) and Busuulwa Walta, as well as film professionals Ali Musoke and Leonard Amanya.

Durban FilmMart, one of Africa’s most influential co-production and finance markets, brought together a wide spectrum of industry leaders, including regional and international content buyers, sellers, programmers, and strategists. It offered an invaluable platform for the Ugandan team to engage in high-level discussions and build networks that can boost the country’s growing film industry.

The event featured powerful panel discussions on themes such as digital film markets, the future of regional festivals, and cross-border collaboration. These conversations opened the floor to new ideas and offered strategies for African filmmakers to broaden their reach.

The Ugandan team also took part in pitch sessions and financing forums, gaining direct feedback and building connections with potential partners. These engagements not only highlighted the creative potential in Uganda but also positioned our filmmakers as serious players on the continental and global stage.

Their participation underscored the value of collaboration, innovation, and networking in expanding markets and increasing visibility for Ugandan stories. As the global appetite for authentic African content continues to grow, events like Durban FilmMart serve as critical stepping stones in amplifying our voices and securing the future of our industry.

The experience in Durban has left the Ugandan delegation more inspired, connected, and ready to take on new opportunities that benefit both individual creatives and the wider filmmaking community back home.

We welcome all of them back.
