UCC MOBILE CINEMA POWERS INCLUSIVE FILM SCREENING IN MBARARA

The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has once again proven its commitment to empowering communities through film by supporting the SPEAK Film Screening in Mbarara City on 26th September 2025. Powered by the UCC Mobile Cinema van, the event not only entertained but also made history as a platform for inclusivity, Deaf empowerment, and creative industry growth.

Hosted at University Inn in partnership with the Uganda National Association of the Deaf (UNAD), and coordinated by KPM Entertainment, the screening drew an enthusiastic audience with a remarkable majority being Deaf attendees. This turnout reflected the event’s true mission, ensuring Deaf representation at the heart of Uganda’s creative spaces.

The event achieved impressive numbers: 355 tickets sold and supported, alongside 30 complimentary tickets, showing strong community interest and backing.

Collaborations made the evening even more impactful, featuring the involvement of a local filmmaker from Mbarara and the Prime Minister of Mbarara University Guild. These connections underscored the growing synergy between local talent, academic institutions, and national bodies like UCC in championing film as a tool for change.

By providing the state-of-the-art Mobile Cinema van, UCC has set a shining example of how national institutions can fuel cultural development. Their support brought professional-grade screening facilities to Mbarara, proving that no region should be left behind in accessing quality film experiences.

As the impact continues to resonate, the Mbarara SPEAK screening stands as a milestone for Uganda’s creative industry, a reminder that with the right support, film can open doors, create jobs, and amplify voices too often left unheard. UCC’s leadership in this initiative deserves every commendation for showing how innovation and inclusion can go hand in hand.
