THE WEEKEND CRAFT

Hola,

There is something about a weekend that gets everyone giggly. Some would say it’s the time out of office for two days, thus doing whatever they please. For a considerate number; they embrace it because they get a chance to catch up on their hobbies and/or side hustles. When I yap about hobbies and/or side hustles, I would like to dip a toe into the waters of the wonders and craft of performing artists. So, let’s get to it;

The performing arts is a vast realm that is greatly diversified with disciplines like theatre, circus and dance to mention a few. Nevertheless, comedy falling under the wing of theatre is a form of performing arts that I bet has no haters. Everyone loves a good laugh, just depends on who is telling the joke. Stand-up comedy on the other hand, is a talent that not everyone is blessed to have, including myself…huh. On that note; if you are down for a few laughs from experienced and known comedians in Uganda, then the ARISE WE-MEN sit down comedy event is the place to be. 😉

Speaking of crafts, some people have the skill of staying fit whether they are athletes or not. The previous month I tried to workout every week but my oh my…let’s just say I am not that disciplined (I did not come into this world to suffer with muscle pulls). On the brighter side, staying fit and healthy is one way one could build their immunity system. For our dear mothers, sisters and all the ladies battling cancer out there, this one is for you. The RAYS OF HOPE HOSPICE JINJA has organized a marathon to raise cancer awareness that is eating up our mothers of the land. And this time; those that love a stroll during a marathon, you weren’t left out (5km walk). Henceforth, scrub those running shoes and wash those running or riding pants, on the 25th of October we are getting sweaty because EVERY WOMAN MATTERS.

Technology today has a grip on everyone in that there is recorded screen time daily. However, one way to disconnect from the digital world is by attending performing arts’ exhibitions or show downs. The creativity and craftiness of some performing arts are surely eye catching, for instance, live painting shows outlay the skill in the painter’s fingers and the creativity in their minds. Call me a bluff if you haven’t experienced it, but…I could help you with that; the OPEN STUDIO SESSION awaits on 25th October.

Like I said earlier; everyone loves a good laugh, but what better way to have a crack at it than during a brunch (Foood…mm mm mm). On the 26th of October, the FONTIS RESIDENCES HOTEL has lined up a bottomless brunch experience accompanied with a couple of good laughs served chilled by a continental figure in the comedic realm in Africa. Ladies and Gentlemen (DRUM ROLL!!) …BASKET MOUTH. Starting out his career as a rap artist, Bright Okpocha aka Basket Mouth opted for comedy after a few attempts in the rap game that did not yield much fruit. Nevertheless, his comedy career shot for the skies and culminated into him being one of Africa’s most prominent stand-up comedians with a unique touch to his craft. The FONTIS BOTTOMLESS BRUNCH is locked and loaded waiting for y’all.

To be called a performing artist, there has to be at least an ounce of creativity in you that let’s you standout from the rest. That drop of authenticity blended with a crafty talent and skill can take you places you cannot pronounce, yet again…its just my 2 cents on the topic. As an enthusiast of the performing arts, I would like to dub this weekend; the October weekend craft.

Until next time, I remain…

Yours truly;
