Do you believe that good things should happen to you because you are a good person?
That because you have lived well and right in the sight of God, you should somehow be immune to life’s difficulties?
This is not a Biblical view of life. Divorce yourself from it.
The most righteous man alive, upon whom our faith is now hinged, did not come out of his life of righteousness alive. In fact, he -Jesus Christ- was killed because of it.
The idea that life in God is pain-free enjoyment is hedonism clothed in salvation- a cheap imitation of the true original.
The fact of the matter is that alignment with God’s standard will produce a measure of good living, and yet, that is not the point.
If it were, then believers in war-torn Middle East, oppressive North Korea and hunger-stricken Sudan would have no reason to be Christian. Yet, they are.
Yourself, you would have no reason to be a Christian if war broke out in your country and you lost everything, plus the people you love.
The gospel message is not and has never been, “Come to Jesus and all your problems will disappear.” The gospel message is: “You are a sinner in need of the salvation which is in Christ Jesus.”
Rich or poor, suffering or in bliss, sick or healthy, the business of salvation is the reclamation of your soul, which is the most valuable thing that you possess.
The question was asked, and it still stands:
“What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?” Matthew 16:26
Once your soul is saved, every good thing else is a welcome addition- Yet if you have everything else but not your soul, then what do you really have?
