The world is dealing with the devastating disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic and leadership has been put to the test, especially on how to handle emergencies of this nature.
To end the spread of the coronavirus, it is important that all of us work together. If we can keep off the streets and practice social distancing, we shall not have problems where some Ugandans are facing the wrath of police, army and LDUs. You might have seen a lady who got caned and fell off a boda. Some of them seem to be taking advantage of this situation and it is no wonder the President called them “pigs”.
Let us play our role in this fight because it doesn’t necessitate deployment security of forces to enforce the President’s directives. Countries like Botswana have successfully enacted a lockdown without relying on Security agencies for enforcement, which means that we can also do the same.
My appeal is to citizens to do their part in fighting this pandemic and for the security forces to stick to their motto, “Serve and Protect” instead of changing it to “Purge and Scourge”. If we work together we shall defeat this common enemy.
