Uganda’s film industry has received another boost on the global stage as renowned producer Nabwiso Mathew, President of the Producers Guild of Uganda (PGU), has been elected among the 48 new members of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (International Emmys). The new members represent 23 countries across the world, highlighting the Academy’s dedication to diversity and international collaboration.
The International Emmys membership is composed of distinguished professionals working in television and film from around the globe. Members are tasked with shaping the future of international television by judging Emmy competitions, attending exclusive industry events, networking with global decision-makers, and contributing to discussions that influence storytelling worldwide. Through this platform, creatives gain access to invaluable opportunities that foster growth, partnerships, and visibility on the world stage.
Nabwiso’s election into this prestigious body is a significant achievement not only for him but also for Uganda’s creative industry at large. His leadership at PGU has already positioned him as a key voice in advancing local production standards, professionalizing the industry, and creating opportunities for Ugandan talent to be recognized globally.
He follows in the footsteps of Leonard Amanya, who joined the International Emmys earlier and has been instrumental in encouraging and paving the way for more Ugandans to take part in these global industry circles. Amanya’s involvement has ensured that Ugandan stories and professionals continue to find a place in conversations about international television excellence.
This milestone signals a new chapter for Ugandan film and television, where local voices are not only producing content for domestic audiences but also contributing to the global narrative.
Congratulations to Nabwiso Mathew on this achievement, and a heartfelt thank you to Leonard Amanya for his ongoing efforts in taking Uganda’s creative industry global.
