Maya Gadir has over 15 years of human-centred training in various fields. Beginning her career as a Medical Herbalist where she has trained for over 500 hours over a period of 5 years in patient-centred herbal clinics at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston and around the UK. She also has over 10 years of experience in student-centred teaching after completing and obtaining her CELTA certificate at the British Council in Khartoum, Sudan. As part of her current profession, a radio anchor, she has spent over 7 years as one of the main presenters at the first English radio stations in the country, Capital Radio 91.6FM. During her time at the station, she was able to apply the skills gained throughout her work experience to become the longest running English Radio Host in the country and the first English Host to have participated in the official celebration of Sudan’s Independence Day which was broadcasted live through 17 international news agencies on December 31st. In addition to hosting presidential events such as the official event welcoming President Paul Kagame of Rwanda as well as PM Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia to the country, both presidential events were private taking place at the Republican Palace in Khartoum, Sudan with the presence of the delegations.

Maya Gadir became one of the most influential radio personalities in the country with interpersonal skills that helped her build a great network in and out of Sudan. She has started an initiative called “The Circle” providing a safe space for women and girls of all ages and backgrounds to feel empowered, listened to and appreciated so as to solve their various challenges and obstacles. She is also working on a personal radio project with the BBC to unite the African continent by provide a unified content developing creative solutions and providing knowledge exchange between the countries.

Maya is also part of The British Council’s New Narratives 2020 Mav-rix Project where she believes that with the team the image of the African continent can be positively changed.
