About

Lloyd Lutara has always told stories, with his compulsion to tell them leading him across multiple mediums. His prose has appeared in publications like The Daily Monitor, The East African and Kalahari Review. His work in television includes The Hostel (2015), BaIikoowa in the City (2016), Kyaddala (2019) amongst others. His film credits include the short films Suubi’s Prayer and Day 256, both of which can be watched on Youtube. His theater work includes A Ghost Story which was staged at the 2018 Kampala International Theater Festival and 2022 saw his whodunnit Rope staged as Tebere Arts Foundation’s Annual Production. 2023 and 2024 has seen him as an artist in residence under the Vivid Synergies! Residency hosted by Afriart Gallery. The resulting work will be a Sci-fi/ Fantasy book named ā€œThe Nagoye Treeā€ to be released in May 2024.

Unencumbered Lloyd’s work often delves into themes of existential crisis, regret, disillusionment and mortality; often incorporating elements of horror and the supernatural, where physical and psychological boundaries blur. Overall, in forcing himself to face the questions he’d rather not have to, he hopes to get people to face the same.
