MATATU FILM STAGE 3 IN KAMPALA

On Saturday, October 4th, between 5 PM and 10 PM, the 3rd edition of Matatu Film Stage officially kicked off in grand style, with a double experience at Nawab Asian Bistro and Century Cinemax Acacia Mall. I had the pleasure of attending, and it was truly an evening to remember.

The night began atop Acacia Mall at Nawab Asian Bistro, where a carefully curated guest list of film lovers, industry professionals, and creatives gathered. The ambience was warm and stylish, filled with good food, lively conversation, and an unmistakable energy of collaboration. It was one of those evenings where everyone seemed to be connecting with someone new, creating the kind of networks that keep Uganda’s film industry growing. The ever-charming Esther Natukunda hosted the event, adding sparkle and ease to the night’s flow.

As the sun set, guests were ushered into the cinema halls for the highlight of the evening, screenings of cinematic short stories from across the continent. The diversity, creativity, and storytelling on display were nothing short of inspiring. Each film carried its own heartbeat, reminding us why African cinema deserves more screens and more audiences.

Of course, no screening is without its quirks, at one point, a rather unaware audience member decided to take a phone call on loudspeaker in the middle of a film! The awkwardness filled the room until someone yelled, “GET OFF THE PHONE!” A timely reminder that cinema etiquette still needs a bit more emphasis in our communities.

The good news? The festival is far from over. #MatatuFilmStage3 continues all week with evening screenings at Century Cinemax Acacia Mall and selected community cinemas known as Ebibanda.

So, if you love film, culture, and great storytelling, grab your ticket at www.matatufilmstage.com/tickets and be part of this cinematic celebration.
