Hola,
We live in crazy times, times when a bottle of beer is equivalent to half a kg of meat, times when local brew (malwa, enturire, etc) are seen as a cultural touch to an event and not just any ordinary drink. But regardless of the economic constraints, a Ugandan will always find ways to live to the fullest. Pearl of Africa is at heart for that. On that note, let me take you through a few hits for this week;
He has been on the music scene for the passed 50 years, and still counting. With timeless hits like: Don’t Divide Us, Nkomyeewo, and Sooka omunonye, Diplock Segawa, through his music, has made kwanjulas (introduction ceremonies) more ecstatic and lively, especially in the Buganda region, where he was mainly booked for wedding performances. Mind you, he left no unsatisfied faces on every occasion. Diplock Segawa, together with the Wrens Band, locked opportunities to perform at international festivals throughout his music career. Euro Cross festival and Greenbelt Festival are some of the festivals that the crew graced. Ladies and Gentlemen, 43 Years of Diplock Segawa.
Talking about timeless entertainment, sports have always been and will always be among the top 10 entertainment choices for most of the Earth’s population. And boy oh boy, Saturday 24th May, 2025 has a classic showdown that you ought not to miss, it is a classic East African rugby showdown of Uganda Legends vs Kenya Legends. Adrenaline pumped, boots laced up, and smiles turned into Beast mode, there is no other way to enjoy rugby than a live (with your naked eyes) action-packed match with legends doing what they do best; Taking down names and beating the game. 😉
Sports entertainment evolves with the years, from watching to participating for the sake of entertainment. The latter form is greatly consumed in modern day owing to the fact that many people directly participate in marathons. Even if they are not athletes and unfit, we go for the love of the vibes and the experience. Yes, I said “We”…I am a proud member of the category :). For the marathon lovers, the Coffee Marathon at the Africa Coffee Park is here for that Cardio test if you get what I mean ;). With a theme geared towards highlighting the potential of empowering rural female coffee farmers, the Coffee Marathon aims to boost coffee production, especially among women in rural areas, and promote healthy living through cardiovascular exercises.
As the marathoners showcase their cardiovascular strengths, so will film make-up artists and costume designers be exhibiting the skill and talent embedded in their fingers at the Karakta film exhibition. Ever wondered what the non-human-like creatures or outfits look like behind the scenes in movies or how they are made? Then you need to take a trip to Serena Hotel Kampala for the two-day exhibition of film costume designs and film makeup techniques, and cosmetology. Come have a feel of what UgaWood has to offer.
Uganda’s film industry is growing and evolving every year. With the diversity in raw talent and potential, it is only a matter of time before Uganda’s films and shows start hitting global screens. The biggest challenges experienced in the film industry in Uganda are the inadequacy of proper filming equipment (they are quite expensive), and proper funding for film and show production. Nevertheless, Rome wasn’t built in one day, and mark my words, Uganda’s film industry is coming, and I think the world’s not yet ready.
Until next time, I remain…
Yours truly,
