Yesterday, while speaking to a friend, she asked how I’m doing. I tried to do a quick scan for what exact emotions I carry in my body but I couldn’t figure out which one(s) to choose.
This has been my state since 20th Jan when Mom was admitted for her surgery. I decided implicitly that my emotions did not matter at that moment. The most important thing was for me to be emotionally sober and possibly hyper vigilant to make sure that Mom leaves the hospital alive. No panicking. Just a lot more inclined to logic.
Lucky for me, the day one of the specialists advised that her oxygen levels shouldn’t reach 60 was the same day they dropped below 60. Initially I was just looking at the machine showing many numbers whose significance I wasn’t aware of but I thank God that the day I was educated was the same day the education played a crucial role in keeping Mom alive.
I had a 2025 work plan I was excited to execute but I quickly realized that I couldn’t steal a few minutes of work while in hospital. They say you cannot serve two masters at ago. I chose to serve my mother.
It’s been more than a month since I made the decision and she tries to take a few steps with minimum support. I also started trying to get back to work – of course with guilt that I’m far behind my work plan but I think what matters is the ability to keep showing up, even in the smallest of ways.
