Finding Home in Art

She owns two paintings that she treasures deeply, not just for their aesthetic value but also for the vivid symbolism they convey. While acknowledging that her perception of art may be subjective, she believes that’s what makes art so beautiful – it’s all about individual interpretation.

In anticipation of acquiring a new painting, she’s been contemplating the perfect spot for it, ensuring it complements the existing pieces and maintains the room’s visual harmony. Although hesitant to undertake the task, she’s eager to find the ideal location.

The first painting she wants to describe is one that evokes a sense of hope and rescue. Imagine being on a ship, lost at sea, with no clear destination in sight. The captain, despite his claims of familiarity with the waters, seems just as lost. As she gazes out the window, the moon shines brightly, casting an air of peacefulness. However, this tranquility is short-lived, as the reality of being lost sets in. Just as all hope seems lost, a lighthouse appears in the distance, its beam of light cutting through the darkness. The painting beautifully captures this moment of relief, with the lighthouse, the moon, and the island in the background.

The second painting is a testament to nature’s awe-inspiring power. It depicts a massive waterfall, with water cascading down a rocky ledge. What’s striking about this piece is the presence of a tree with shallow roots, perched precariously on the edge of the cliff. Despite the turbulent waterfall, the tree remains steadfast, its dangling roots a testament to its resilience. This painting is a poignant reminder of nature’s majesty and the fragility of life.

She loves both paintings for the stories they evoke and the emotions they stir. While she can only imagine what inspired the artist to create these pieces, she’s grateful to have them in her possession. Interestingly, she acquired the paintings at a steal, as the artist was struggling to make ends meet. This experience has made her appreciate the often-overlooked value of art and the struggles artists face.

The story of the artist, who was going through a tough time, resonates with her. She’s reminded of the famous Dutch artist, Vincent van Gogh, who struggled with mental health issues and poverty. Despite his challenges, Van Gogh continued to create, leaving behind a legacy of breathtaking art.

For her, these paintings have become an integral part of her space, making it feel like home. She’s always on the lookout for more art pieces, particularly those that adorn restaurants, lounges, and hotel receptions.
