Celebrated Ugandan multi-award-winning makeup and costume designer Shakira Kibirige is finally bringing her expertise to a live local audience with a rare physical workshop in Kampala. This highly anticipated session will be held during this year’s Film & Culture Market, offering a limited number of participants an exclusive opportunity to learn from one of the most accomplished artists in Uganda’s film industry.
Shakira’s work has been widely recognised both locally and internationally. She has served as the lead makeup artist on some of Uganda’s most acclaimed film and television productions, including Queen of Katwe (2016), The Mercy of the Jungle (2018), Freedom (2016), My Wife’s Clan (2013), Stain (2021), Tembere (2022), Kafacoh (2022) Imperial Blue (2019), August (2019), Escape from Luzira (2013), Kafa Coh, Bed of Thorns, Kyaddala: It’s Real, and 16 Rounds. Her artistry has also featured in pan-African projects and co-productions, raising the bar for makeup and costume design across the continent.
Her excellence has earned her multiple accolades, including the Best Makeup Artist award at the Uganda Film Festival (UFF) and recognition at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA). Shakira has also been invited to share her skills and experience on prestigious international platforms such as Pavillon Afriques at the Cannes Film Festival and workshops in countries like Zambia.
While she previously conducted a virtual masterclass in Uganda, organised by her mentee Kebirungi Rose Lily, this marks her first physical workshop in Uganda in recent years.
Details for registration are on the official event poster but slots are limited, so early sign-up is highly recommended.
This workshop is a must-attend for makeup artists, costume designers, filmmakers, and anyone passionate about behind-the-scenes artistry.
