Unfortunately, this #CindyVsSheebah battle was not about the music. We knew from the get go that Cindy Sanyu is the musical talent. Whilst, Sheeba Samali Karungi is the creative genius. Despite her wanting vocal skills, Sheeba has achieved the brand and economic success in a terrain that Cindy claims to be hers:
The war, led by Cindy, according to me is about; ‘how dare you be richer and more popular than me?! Yet, I have done everything ‘right’ according to society’s defined gende role of me?! I am a wife, three times over; #WIFE, #mother who is more vocally advanced that you?! I am even Uganda Music Association president; .. ‘ .
Sheeba’s body is a single person dictatorship, Not the public democracy that the public wants it to become. She is thus being punished for dictating how she uses it, to market her creative and performance talent and make money.
In our present socio-cultural climate, women are blamed for succeeding whilst remaining unmarried or unattached to any man, or not having any biological children. I mean, Cindy has the audacity of accusing her of having no such responsibility?!
For refusing to be defined as a wife, Sheeba has been belittled. As, has been the tagline trending by some misguided Male and females alike;
‘Sheeba is returning to her house, while, Cindy is going back to her home; as in to a
man, a husband and children!’
The false narrative being peddled here is that; ‘a female who is unmarried, or partnered and or cohabiting, lives in something other than a home.’
All the while forgetting that homes are defined differently. Pertinently, let’s not be fooled, our constitution still denies women the right to own customary land.
Therefore, Sheeba, creating a paying market for her creative talent, whose sales she invests in houses and businesses is a radical thing. The social and economic security that society pins on a man to provide, she is providing herself.
This kind of self actualisation riles the hell out of most men and women who are yet to achieve what she has in material culture and business acumen. Men, are nolonger trophies to be won. They are everything else, but, a mark of a successful woman!
It is worth noting that the body politic (seduction and eroticism) which, they both use to brand themselves has no singular definition.
So, the misleading projection that a single man accessing Cindy’s body at the end of day after any public display of it makes her respectable: Whilst, the idea that male access to Sheeba’s body after public display, remains unclear. Thus, alledgedly making her unrespectable needs to be debunked.
As in, wake up dear people. They have both chosen, dictated who to share their bodies with and how. One is not right or better over the other.
My disappointment from the get go has been Cindy. As an UMA president, she should know better than to malign and bully Sheeba (toxic language and all), a fellow woman in the same industry. Cindy proved through all this that she knows no better and suffers major self esteem issues .
Winners never need to go to war to prove themselves. Unfortunately, by Cindy’s lead, she has endorsed and actively participated and enabled the abuse, objectification and online harassment of seemingly successful women in the embodimentof Sheeba.
The bits I watched online of the battle revealed a very unhealthy war zone, littered with flats, offset moments and badly produced musical performance from both sides. Sheeba struggled vocally more. Vocal range and articulation not withstanding.
For illustration, search for any clips from the just concluded #MauriceKiryaExperience ( sound quality, vocal delivery et all). Then, get any independent clip of both Sheeba and Cindy from yesterday…Its embarrassing. There goes another slur smeared onto women in music from Uganda!!
They both made money, I am told. Cindy has her ego boost. Sheeba I hope is surrounding herself with better counsel. I mean the ones who will support her to commit to a vocal training journey.
Cindy may have gotten a head start over her vocally, but vocal excellence is very achievable. She will be surprised with herself at how well she sings after even just six months, of daily one hour voice training.
Hopefully, She will wisely desist from rushing to war when called by toxic feminine competition like this. Sheeba is a phenomenal woman. A very smart woman at that to achieve this much success and malicious targeting.
